To a solution of 5-amino-2-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (1 g, 4 mmol) in dichloromethane (30 ml) and triethylamine (3 ml) was added 5-chloro-2,4-dimethoxybenzoyl chloride (1.03 g, 4.4 mmol). After stirring at room temperature for 2h the reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane (75 ml) and washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate. The organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate, concentrated in vacuo and the residue recrystallised from ethyl acethate/petrol to afford the title compound as a colourless crystalline solid (1.3 g).
