Procedure
0.8 g (5.2 mmol) of the (1S)-3,4,5,5-tetramethyl-3-cyclohexen-1-ol obtained in Example 2B was dissolved in 5 ml of absolute methylene chloride, 0.5 ml of pyridine was added to the solution, and the mixture was cooled to 0° C. Subsequently 1.54 g (5.7 mmol) of tert-butyldimethylsilyl trifluorome-thanesulfonate were added and the mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 15 min and then poured into 10 ml of water. After extraction with 10 ml of methylene chloride, the organic phase was washed with 10 ml of 0.1 M H2SO4, 10 ml of saturated NaHCO3 solution and 10 ml of water, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated to result in 1.3 g (92% of theory) of the abovementioned product.
