Procedure

Trifluoroacetic acid (0.5 mL, 6.49 mmol) was added to a suspension of 1,1-dimethylethyl 5-(acetylamino)-1H-benzimidazole-2-carboxylate (0.155 g, 0.563 mmol) in dichloromethane (2 mL). After stirring at RT overnight, the solvent was evaporated to give the title compound (0.166 g, 88%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ ppm 10.17 (s, 1H), 8.19 (d, 1H), 7.61 (d, 1H), 7.40 (dd, 1H), 2.1 (s, 3 H). MS: m/z 218 (M−1).
