To a mixture of (4-chloro-3-methoxyphenyl)methanamine (392 mg, 2.284 mmol) (as the hydrochloride salt), Hunig's Base (0.5 mL, 2.86 mmol), and MeOH (2 mL) was added a solution of methyl 2,2-diethoxyacetimidate (295 mg, 1.83 mmol) in MeOH (1 mL) and the resulting mixture was heated with stirring in an oil bath at 70° C. for 2 hrs and allowed to cool to room temperature over 3 days. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was used without further purification.
