Procedure

680 mg (3.59 mmol) 1-isothiocyanato-4-methyl-indane is dissolved in 13 ml THF at room temperature under argon. Then 0.21 ml (3.59 mmol) 2-amino-ethanol is added slowly. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature overnight. After completion of the reaction as indicated by TLC the solvent is removed under reduced pressure to give the crude product. Subsequent purification by column chromatography on silica gel (CH2Cl2/MeOH 15:1) and stirring in Et2O affords the title compound 1-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-3-(4-methyl-indan-1-yl)-thiourea as a white powder (Mp 90-93° C.).
