Tert-butyl 4-(3-(methoxycarbonyl)benzyl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (1.25 g, 3.74 mmol) was stirred with a 4/1 solution of dichloromethane/trifluoroacetic acid (20 mL) for 1 hour at room temperature. The solution was then concentrated under vacuum to afford the title compound (1.73 g). MS (ESI) m/z 235.1 [M+H]+
