Procedure

(3-Chloro-5,6-dihydroxy-benzo[b]thiophen-2-yl)-morpholin-4-yl-methanone (7.7 g) was dissolved in ethyl acetate (500 ml) and a solution of nitric acid in dichloromethane (2M, 13.6 ml) was gradually added at 20° C. into. The solution was stirred 30 min at room temperature and then it was poured into ice-cold water and the resultant solid was filtered and dried in vacuum. The product was recrystallized from acetic acid.
