Reaction Steps
6,7-Diethoxy-5-nitro-benzo[b]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (0.77 g), zinc chloride (5.0 g) and conc. HCl (1.3 ml) were mixed and heated at 100° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled. Water (20 ml) was added and the precipitate was filtered. The crude product was recrystallized twice from methanol.
