Procedure

To a solution of 1′,3′-Dihydro-spiro[[1,3]dioxolane-2,2′-inden]-5′-ylamine (1.0 g, 5.23 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (15 mL) was added phenyl chloroforamte (0.66 mL, 5.23 mmol) drop wise at room temperature followed by triethylamine (1.15 mL, 8.3 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at r.t for 30 min and then solvent was removed under vacuum. Water was added to the resulting crude product and the precipitate was filtered and dried to give the crude (1′,3′-Dihydro-spiro[[1,3]dioxolane-2,2′-inden]-5′-yl)-carbamic acid phenyl ester as a pale yellow solid (1.62 g, quantitative).
