Methylmagnesium bromide (3 M in diethyl ether) (0.50 mL, 1.49 mmol) was added to a 0° C. solution of 2-{[4-(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)phenyl]acetyl}-N,N-dimethyl-4-[2-methyl-2-(trifluoromethyl)but-3-en-1-yl]-1H-imidazole-1-sulfonamide (780 mg, 1.49 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL). After stirring at 0° C. for 30 min, the reaction mixture was quenched with water and extracted with methylene chloride and ethyl acetate. The combined organic extracts were dried (magnesium sulfate) and concentrated in vacuo. Chromatography over silica eluting with 0-80% ethyl acetate/hexane afforded 2-{2-[4-(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)phenyl]-1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl}-N,N-dimethyl-4-[2-methyl-2-(trifluoromethyl)but-3-en-1-yl]-1H-imidazole-1-sulfonamide.
