To a solution of 6-(5-{1-[4-(cyclopropylsulfonyl)phenyl]-2-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-yl)ethyl}-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (100 mg) in acetone (5 mL) was added an aqueous solution (1 mL) of potassium permanganate (45.0 mg), and the mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. To the reaction mixture was added sodium sulfite, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give the title compound (50.0 mg, yield 49%) as a pale-yellow amorphous solid. MS: 481 (MH+).
