Procedure

A solution of N-(5-chloropyridin-2-yl)-2-(piperidin-4-ylmethylamino)benzamide (0.152 g, 0.4 mmol) in methanolacetic acid (95:5) (5 mL) was treated with acetone (5 mL) and sodium cyanoborohydride (0.111 g, 1.8 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 h, then it was diluted with 1 N NaOH until pH 13 and extracted with dichloromethane. The organic extracts were combined, dried with MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to provide the title compound (0.158 g, 92%). The crude material was triturated in dichloromethane-hexanes, giving a white powder which was filtered and dried under vacuum at 60° C.
