To a solution of 1-(3-hydroxy-5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-naphthalen-2-yl)-propan-1-one (Intermediate 13, 2.6 g, 10 mmol)) in i-Pr2NEt (28 mL) was added chloromethylmethyl ether (4.8 mL, 63 mmol). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for overnight, was quenched with 1M HCl, and extracted with EtOAc (×3). The combined organic layer was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel (3% EtOAc-hexane) to give the title compound as a white solid (2.79 g, 92%).
