3-Amino-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-6,8,8-trimethyl [1,6]naphthyridine (96 mg, 0.50 mmol) was dissolved in dry THF (5 ml) and the solution treated with benzoyl chloride (70.3 mg; 0.50 mmol). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 h then the precipitate collected by filtration, washed with THF, diethyl ether and dried in vacuo (132 mg; 80%).
