Reaction Steps

To a stirred solution of t-butyl-4-amino-3-[(2-hydroxy-4,N-dimethylpentanoylamino)methyl]benzoic acid (2.98 g, 9.67 mmole) in CH2Cl2 (20 mL) at RT was added TFA (20 mL). After 12 hr, the reaction contents were concentrated, washed with hexanes and dried under high vacuum overnight affording the title compound as an orange oil (3.51 g, 9.60 mmol). This product was used without further purification: MS (ES) m/e 253 (M+H-TFA)+.
