Procedure
Hydrogen peroxide (4.5 mL, 46.3 mmol, 30% by wt.) and 1N NaOH (46 μL, 0.046 mmol) were added to a solution of enone 2 (2.5 g, 11.5 mmol) in MeOH (30 mL) at 0° C. After stirring 1.5 h at 0° C. the mixture was concentrated in vacuo, washed with saturated aqueous NH4Cl and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×). The combined organics were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford the above titled compound.
