Procedure
To a mixture of 2.50 g of N-ethyl-4-hydroxy-L-proline ethylester, 1.76 g of triethylamine and 10 ml of chloroform were dropwise added 1.84 g of mesyl chloride while cooling with ice-water and the combined was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours and then poured into ice-water. The mixture was extracted with chloroform and the extract was washed with an aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and then with water, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain 3.64 g of N-ethyl-4-mesyloxy-L-proline ethylester.
