Procedure

Chloro methyl adipate was prepared from mono-methyl adipate (10 g, 62.4 mmol) by refluxing with thionyl chloride (20 mL) for 2 h. Distillation gave the acid chloride (bp 80° C., 0.35 mm Hg, 7.4 g).
