Procedure
m-Chloroaniline (3.8 g) is dissolved in a mixture of conc. HCl (5 ml) and crushed ice (5 g) and held at 0° C. An aqueous solution (5 ml) of sodium nitrite (2.2 g) is poured slowly into the mixture so that the reaction temperature will not exceed 4° C. The resulting solution is added at 40°-50° C. to a solution consisting of a potassium salt of 3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole (4.5 g) dissolved in water (30 ml) and the mixture is stirred at the same temperature for another 30 minutes.
