A mixture of a 1 M solution of LiAlH4 in THF (1.1 mL, 1.1 mmol) and dry THF (10 mL) was placed under an atmosphere of nitrogen. A solution of 4-(6-(4-isopropylpiperazin-1-yl)pyridin-3-yl)benzonitrile (306 mg, 1.0 mmol, prepared as described in Example 10) in dry THF (5 mL) was added dropwise. The reaction mixture was then stirred at rt for 3 h and quenced with 1 N NaOH. The mixture was filtered and the volatiles were removed. The residue was re-evaporated with THF to give 310 mg (100%) of 4-(6-(4-isopropylpiperazin-1-yl)pyridin-3-yl]benzylamine.
