A mixture of 6-cyclopropyl-3-(2,4-dimethoxybenzyl)thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione (1.82 g), 4′-(bromomethyl)biphenyl-2-carbonitrile (1.38 g) and potassium carbonate (1.4 g) and acetonitrile (100 mL) was stirred at 50° C. for 2 hr. Insoluble material was filtered off, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound as a colorless amorphous solid (2.4 g, 86%).
