Procedure

[2-(3-Bromo-propoxy)-6-methyl-phenyl]-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester was stirred in 4 M HCl in dioxane (50 mL) for 1.5 hrs with the formation of a white precipitation. Filtration, followed by several washes with ether, afforded 2-(3-bromo-propoxy)-6-methyl-phenylamine as a white solid (4.8 g). MS: 244.0 (M+H)+; tR=1.80 min (method 1).
