To 4,4-dimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinoline (2.2 g, 13.66 mmol) in a mixture of water (60 mL) and acetonitrile (40 mL) containing NaHCO3 (3.44 g, 41.0 mmol), was added 5-bromo-4-chloro-2-fluoro-benzenesulfonyl chloride (4.2 g, 13.66 mmol) in acetonitrile (20 mL) slowly with vigorous stirring. After addition, the mixture was stirred for 3 hrs. The resulting precipitate was filtered, washed with hexane and dried to yield 1-(5-bromo-4-chloro-2-fluoro-benzenesulfonyl)-4,4-dimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinoline as a light brown solid (5.0 g).
