To 6-methyl-3′-nitro-N-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]biphenyl-3-carboxamide (0.90 g, 2.2 mmol) in ethanol (22 mL) was added acetic acid (2 mL) and iron (0.90 g, 16 mmol) and the resulting mixture was heated to reflux for 1 hour. Solvent was removed in vacuo. Ethyl acetate was added and solids were removed by filtration. The filtrate was washed sequentially with saturated sodium bicarbonate and brine, dried (Na2SO4) and then concentrated. The product was used without further purification (850 mg, 95%).
