Procedure
To a stirred solution of 1-(4-bromo-2-methylphenyl)-3-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)-4,4,4-trifluoro-2-buten-1-one (200 mg, 0.45 mmol) in pyridine (3 mL) at room temperature was added hydroxylamine hydrochloride (47 mg, 0.68 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 4 h. The resulting mixture was cooled to room temperature and then concentrated, and the residual oil was purified by chromatography on silica gel using 20:80 ethyl acetate/hexanes as eluent to afford the title product as a pale yellow oil (50 mg, 24% yield).
