A solution of 2-(1-(3-(trifluoromethyl)phenylsulfonyl)piperidin-4-yloxy)isoindoline-1,3-dione (4.85 g, 10.0 mmol) and hydrazine monohydrate (550 mg, 11.0 mmol) in ethanol (30 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The resulting solid was filtered off and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was triturated with diethyl ether (80 ml), and the resulting solid was filtered off again and concentrated in vacuo to give O-(1-(3-(trifluoromethyl)phenylsulfonyl)piperidin-4-yl)hydroxylamine (3.00 g, 93%) as a white solid: LCMS: 325 [M+1]+.
