Oxalyl chloride (154 mg, 1.21 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of 2-((pyridin-4-yl)methyl)propanoic acid (100 mg, 0.61 mmol) in DCM (5 ml) at 0° C. under an atmosphere of nitrogen and stirred for 1.5 h at room temperature. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude acid chloride. Aqueous ammonia (5 ml) was added to the above acid chloride solution at 0° C. and stirred for 30 min. The reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined ethyl acetate layer was washed with water followed by brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuum to afford 92.0 mg (92.9%) of 2-((pyridin-4-yl)methyl)propanamide as a pale brown solid.
