A suspension of 4-bromo-8-chloro[1]benzothieno[3,2-c]pyridine-1-ol in POCl3 (1 M) was placed in a microwave reactor at 240° C. (normal absorption) for 10 min. The reaction mixture was carefully extracted with EtOAc/NaHCO3, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and evaporated to provide the title compound.
