A suspension of 1-hydroxy-7-(trifluoromethyl)[1]benzothieno[3,2-c]pyridine-4-carbonitrile in POCl3 (1 M) was placed in a microwave reactor at 210° C. (normal absorption) for 10 min. The reaction mixture was carefully poured onto ice, stirred for 10 min and the solid filtered off to provide the title compound.
