Procedure

Into a 50 mL round-bottom flask, was placed a solution of 7-bromoisoquinolin-1-ol (1.0 g, 4.46 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in POCl3 (5 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred for 60 min at 80° C. in an oil bath. The resulting mixture was concentrated under vacuum. The residue was dissolved in 20 mL of DCM, washed with 3×10 mL of water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under vacuum. The title compound was obtained as a light yellow solid.
