0.01 mol of hydroxylamine hydrochloride and 0.01 mol sodium acetate in solution in 20 ml water were added to a solution of 0.01 mol of 2-(4-phenyl semicarbazono)-indan-1,3-dione in 150 ml ethanol. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 1 hour, then the ethanol was eliminated at reduced pressure. The resulting crystals were dried on suction pump, washed in water, dried and recrystallised from isopropanol.
