To a solution of 2-di-n-propylamino-8-propionyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene (0.7 g, 2.4 mmol) (prepared as in Example 21) in methanol (40 ml) was added a solution of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (1.7 g, 24 mmol) in water (10 ml). The solution was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction was poured into water, the pH was adjusted to 12 and then extracted with methylene chloride. The extract was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to give 760 mg of crude 2-di-n-propylamino-8-(1-oximinopropyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene sufficiently pure to be used in the next step.
