Procedure

Potassium tert-butoxide (1 M in THF, 8,67 ml) is added (dropwise over 5 min) to a solution of N-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)-2-fluoro-6-nitroaniline (XIX, EXAMPLE 21, 1.85 g) in THF (15 ml) cooled at 0°. After 20 min, ethyl bromoacetate (0.96 ml) is added dropwise over several minutes. The ice bath is removed and the reaction is stirred for 2 h, after which it is partitioned between ethyl acetate, aqueous sodium bicarbonate and saline. The phases are separated, the organic phase is dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated to give the title compound, NMR (CDCl3) 1.26, 1.35, 1.50, 3.98, 4.10, 4.20, 4.42, 4.45, 7.42 and 7.39 δ.
