Procedure
1.3 g of m-chloroperbenzoic acid was added to a solution containing 2.5 g of N1 -[2-(4-fluorophenylthio)-1-methylethyl]-N2 -isopropoxycarbonyl-L-valinamide dissolved in 50 ml of methylene chloride, at 0° C. After the mixture was stirred for 5 hours at room temperature, the reaction mixture was filtered. The filtrate was washed successively with a saturated aqueous solution of potassium carbonate and water, the organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and the methylene chloride was removed under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel, thus obtaining 1.8 g of the desired product in the form of a colorless prism-shaped crystal (yield: 69%).
