Procedure
The 5-chloro-2'-fluoro-2-[N-(methoxycarbonylmethyl)-N-(4-nitrophenylsulfonyl)amino]benzophenone prepared in Example 2, step b, is dissolved in 100 ml of ethyl acetate and 5 ml of methanol and hydrogenated at ordinary pressure for 2 hours in the presence of 620 mg of 10% palladium-on-charcoal; the existence of 3 compounds (starting material, intermediate and expected product) is observed in TLC. The catalyst is filtered off, the solvent is evaporated off and the residue is chromatographed on silica gel. The expected compound is eluted with DCM containing 1% of methanol. After recrystallization from DCM/isopropyl ether, m.p.=168°-170° C.
