Procedure

To a solution of 74 mg of N-[1(R)-[(2,3-Dihydro-3-oxo-spiro[1H-indene-1,4'-piperdin]-1'-yl)carbonyl]-4-phenylbutyl]-2-amino-2-methylpropanamide trifluoroactate (prepared as described in Example 74) in 10 mL of methanol 0° C. was added 37 mg of sodium borohydride and stirred for 1 h. The reaction was poured into 5 mL of saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and extracted with chloroform (3×10 mL). The combined organics were washed with brine (5 mL), dried over anhydrous potassium carbonate, filtered, and concentrated to give a colorless foam.
