Procedure
The solution of 1.5 g of 11-(N-methylaminomethyl)-10,11-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepine (Example 1) in 7.5 ml of methyl acrylate is stirred at room temperature for 24 hours and the excess reagent is evaporated to yield the 11-(N-methyl-N-methoxycarbonylethylamino-methyl)-10,11-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepine as an oil, which is chromatographed on silica gel and eluted with 2% methanol-methylene chloride.
