2.0 g (5.28 mmols) of 3-n-decylthio-5-nitrophthalic acid N-methylimide, 1.73 g (10.57 mmols) of sodium phenylsulfinate and 20 ml of DMF are stirred for 17 hours at 120° C. The mixture is concentrated and the residue is taken up in methylene chloride/dilute hydrochloric acid. The organic phases are washed with saturated NaCl solution, dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated. After recrystallisation from cyclohexane, 1.83 g (73% of theory) of the title imide, with a melting point of 86°-88° C., are obtained.
