Procedure

1-Methyl-3-oxo-5-hydroxy-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (6.36 g.), 5.92 g. of methyl-3-aminocrotonate, 9.8 g. of pentafluorobenzaldehyde and 125 ml. of methanol were refluxed for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The residue was slurried with ethanol and filtered. Recrystallization from methanol afforded the title compound; m.p. 250°-253° C. dec.
