Procedure
A solution of 0.6 g of 8-chloro-6-(2-chlorophenyl)-3-acetoxy-3,4-dihydropyrrolo[3,4-d][2]benzazepin-1(2H)-one and 3 ml of a 1 M methanolic solution of methanesulfonic acid in 10 ml of methanol was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The solution was concentrated at reduced pressure to half the volume, diluted with ether, and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration to give orange crystals. Recrystallization from a mixture of methanol and ether gave 8-chloro-6-(2-chlorophenyl)-3,4-dihydro-3-methoxypyrrolo[3,4-d][2]benzazepin-1(2H)-one methanesulfonate as off-white prisms, mp 157°-160° C.
