Procedure
To a boiling solution of 2-methyl-5-phenylthiophene (2g) in dry CCl4 (100 ml) was rapidly added N-bromosuccinimide (1.94 g) and dibenzoylperoxide (0.15 g). After heating under reflux for 30 min., the mixture was cooled and filtered. Evaporation in vacuo gave the title compound as an oil (1.5 g).
