Using a similar procedure to that described in part (d) of Example 1, except starting from the ester (Y) instead of the ester (C), 4-[5-(cyclopentyloxycarbonyl)amino-1-methylindazol-3-ylmethyl]-3-methoxybenzoic acid (U) was obtained as a white solid (95%); mp 216°-217° C.
