Procedure
The 2-[2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)ethoxy]ethanol obtained according to the preceding paragraph was dissolved in 40 ml of dichloromethane containing 1.13 g of triethylamine and the solution was treated with 1.28 g of methanesulfonyl chloride. After stirring for 15 minutes, the solution was washed well with water, the organic layer was separated, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated to give 3.12 g (100%) of 2-[2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)ethoxy]ethyl methanesulfonate in the form of an oil which was homogeneous according to chromatography.
