Procedure
A mixture of 5-chloropyrimidin-2-one (522 mg) and 2,3-dibromo-5-bromoacetyl-1-methylpyrrole (1.24 g) in triethylamine (0.84 ml) and ethanol (35 ml) was stirred at room temperature. After 1.25 h the reaction mixture was cooled in ice and the white precipitate collected and washed with cold ethanol. The dried solid was crystallised twice from ethanol and then from ethyl acetate to give the title pyrimidinone (510 mg) m.p. 229°-232° C., λmax (EtOH) 227 nm (ε9,750), 249 nm (ε9.540), 301.5 nm (ε16,910).
