(3-Benzyloxy-cyclobutyl)-methanol (1.46 g) in N,N-dimethylformamide was treated at 0° C. with imidazole (1.55 g) and tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride (1.37 g) and allowed to warm to room temperature over 16 hours. The reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, the organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel, eluting with ethyl acetate in cyclohexane (0 to 1:9 by volume) to give the title compound (2.24 g).
