tert-Butyl 4-(cyclopropylamino)-3-hydroxy-4-oxo-1-phenylbutan-2-ylcarbamate (780 mg, 2.332 mmol) in dichloromethane (30 ml) was stirred together with 2 ml of HCl (4 m solution in dioxane) for 3 h at room temperature, then 1 ml of HCl and 5 ml of methanol were added and the reaction mixture stirred over night. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, co-evaporated 2× with toluene, the remainder then treated with n-pentane and dried to give 550 mg of a white solid; ESI-MS [M+H]+: 235.1.
