A solution of 2-(1-ethyl-propyl)-6-methoxy-isonicotinic acid methyl ester (1.17 g, 4.97 mmol) in 25% aq. HCl (25 mL) is stirred at 70° C. for 16 h. The solvent is evaporated and the residue is dried under HV to give the title compound (2.00 g) as a yellow solid; LC-MS: tR=0.94 min; [M+1]+=224.01.
