To a solution of t-butyl 4-(3-(1-(3-chlorophenyl)ethylamino)-4-nitrophenyl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (97 mg, 0.21 mmol) in dry dichloromethane (2.0 mL) was added a saturated solution of HCl in diethyl ether (15 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred for 4 hours. The product was collected by filtration and dried in vacuo to afford the title compound (58.0 mg, 70% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD): δ 8.06 (d, 1H), 7.43 (s, 1H), 7.33 (m, 2H), 7.26 (m, 1H), 6.38 (d, 1H), 5.88 (s, 1H), 4.80 (m, 1H), 3.54-3.43 (m, 4H), 3.22 (m, 4H), 1.62 (d, 3H); MS (ESI) m/z: Calculated for C18H22ClN4O2: 360.14; Observed: 361.5 (M++1) [corresponding to the free base].
