Procedure
A mixture of aniline (10 g, 107 mmol), 2-ethoxymethylene-malonic acid diethyl ester (27.8 g, 128 mmol) was heated at 110° C. for 2 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to remove the liberated ethanol from the reaction. The residue (28.2 g) was carried out for the next reaction without any purification.
