Procedure
To a solution of compound 12-B (1.04 g, 4.52 mmol) in MeOH (6 mL) and H2O (3 mL) was added sodium hydroxide (0.241 g, 6.04 mmol) and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was acidified with 2N HCl to pH 4-5 and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting residue was taken up in EtOAc, and the organic layer was washed with H2O and then dried over Na2SO4. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate concentrated in vacuo to give Compound 12-C (0.841 g, 92%), which was used as such in the next reaction; MS m/z (M+H+) 203.
